About the position

The Lead Protection & Control Engineer at Qualus will oversee a team of engineers and technicians in the Substation Protection and Control department. This role involves managing projects from proposal to completion, ensuring design concurrence, and developing comprehensive engineering design packages for protective relaying and communications systems. The position requires strong leadership skills, technical expertise, and the ability to build relationships with clients and stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of engineers, engineering technicians, and drafting technicians from project proposal to project as-built stage.
  • Coordinate with Substation Physical Engineering, Relay Settings, and other groups to ensure design concurrence.
  • Develop complete engineering design packages for protective relaying and communications systems, including one-line diagrams, three-line diagrams, AC schematics, DC schematics, logic and functional diagrams, panel layouts, control house layouts, wiring/connection diagrams, interconnection diagrams, relaying equipment specifications and bill of materials.
  • Develop SCADA packages, including input/output list (Point Data Sheet).
  • Provide technical direction and on-the-job training to drafters, engineering technicians, and less experienced engineers.
  • Develop, nurture, and maintain trusted relationships with senior level engineers, managers, and executives with current or prospective clients.
  • Present technical solutions to key customers and respond to technical concerns in real time.
  • Direct and/or participate in client meetings/job site visits to collect or deliver design and engineering data.
  • Ensure company's Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) processes are followed on all design packages.
  • Delegate, plan, prioritize, and review the work of other engineers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) with a power systems focus, or an MS Degree in Engineering in lieu of the BS Engineering degree.
  • Seven or more years of electrical engineering experience, with required experience in protection and control engineering.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) registration or plan to become registered is required.
  • Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record are required.
  • Strong analytical and computer skills.
