About the position

The Lead Protection & Control Engineer - Technical Application Engineering is responsible for providing expert application support for GE's Grid Automation Protection & Control product portfolio. This role involves collaborating with customers to understand their requirements, demonstrating solutions, and promoting the business value of GE's products. The position is remote and requires significant interaction with customers to ensure technical specifications are met and to support sales efforts.

Responsibilities

  • Act as an expert consultant to guide customers in planning and development of technical solutions.
  • Assist with technical development of proposals, ensuring compliance with customer specifications.
  • Interpret single line diagrams and convert them to product specifications.
  • Provide technical support to commercial teams during customer presentations and evaluations.
  • Assist customers in troubleshooting and analyzing protection and control systems.
  • Track issues discovered during product demonstrations and follow through with the Technology team for resolutions.
  • Lead technical presentations to customers in support of sales or service efforts.
  • Provide product training to customers and the sales force.
  • Adhere to customer and GE Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) requirements.
  • Assist customers in product testing at their locations.
  • Influence technical specifications and support the sales team to close key orders.
  • Outline, present, and sell the value of GE products and services to meet customer needs.
  • Develop and cultivate long-term relationships with customers at all levels.
  • Coordinate with sales teams for customer calls, presentations, and bid meetings.
  • Support the development of new leads and market opportunities in the Sales Region.
  • Provide a link from customers to marketing, engineering, and product development teams.
  • Partner with peers and management to enhance selling techniques and approaches.
  • Provide market dynamics input such as competitive intelligence and industry trends to marketing and business teams.
  • Prepare and present technical presentations, white papers, and case studies at industry conferences.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited college or university.
  • Minimum 8 years of experience in power system protection and control.
  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 50% of the time.

Nice-to-haves

  • Deep understanding of industrial and utility protection, control, and communications applications.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, both written and verbal.
  • Experience using GE Multilin Substation Automation products.
  • Power system automation and communication expertise.
  • Ability to perform communication analysis (Wireshark, etc.) and recommend settings or application modifications.
  • Hands-on expertise in configuring and troubleshooting protection and control systems.
  • Ability to maintain a professional demeanor and interact with all levels of customers.
  • Strong creative and problem-solving skills.
  • Flexible and adaptable; open to change and modification of tasks.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills with a proactive approach to conflict resolution.
  • Customer-focused attitude with proven positive results.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
