About the position

The Lead Reliability Engineer is responsible for ensuring the safe and profitable operation of the assigned plant by collaborating with various engineering and maintenance teams. This role focuses on analyzing equipment failures, developing reliability control plans, and supporting maintenance activities to enhance operational performance.

Responsibilities

  • Provide analysis of failed equipment to determine and eliminate cause(s)
  • Develop and implement Reliability Control Plans for several equipment classes
  • Advise on proper execution and documentation of repair and preventive maintenance activities
  • Identify and interface with preferred equipment manufacturers and technical support consultants
  • Draft maintenance job plans for specific repair activities
  • Maintain and update maintenance documentation for critical plant equipment
  • Prepare formal technical reports documenting repair actions and failure analyses
  • Gather, interpret, report, and manage plant reliability metrics
  • Participate in site Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) activities
  • Assist with equipment performance troubleshooting
  • Support equipment installations/upgrades ensuring design-for-maintainability and reliability are incorporated

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or related field
  • 7-10 years of experience in chemical/petrochemical plant maintenance and/or reliability engineering
  • Experience with Root Cause Failure Analysis and Failure Mode and Effects Analysis
  • Experience in a leadership role
  • Strong problem solving and troubleshooting skills
  • Knowledge of mechanical design, material selection, and repair techniques
  • Hands-on experience using SAP work management system or similar
  • Proficient use of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

Nice-to-haves

  • Six Sigma Green Belt certification
  • Experience in a unionized environment
  • Experience inspecting and designing repairs for equipment
  • Strong educational background in materials, mechanics, fluid flow, dynamics and heat transfer
