About The Position

The Lead Research Analyst - Writer in Residence at the University of Miami's Climate Accountability Lab will focus on interdisciplinary research projects examining the fossil fuel industry's impact on educational institutions and public narratives related to climate change mitigation. This role involves supervising collaborative research efforts that utilize both qualitative and quantitative methods, including public records requests, historical analysis, and authoring peer-reviewed publications.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Sociology, History of Science, Psychology, or related fields.
• Strong capabilities in research methods including interviewing, public records requests, and archival research.
• Familiarity with climate change politics and supply-side climate policy.
• Excellent knowledge of government documents and processes at local and federal levels.
• Strong publication record in relevant fields.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Nice To Haves

• Proficiency in programming languages such as Python or R.
• Experience working with interdisciplinary research teams or in cross-sector collaborations.

Responsibilities

• Design and execute data collection strategies from various sources including public records, historical archives, and social media.
• Conduct structured and unstructured interviews with primary sources and mentor colleagues in interview training.
• Prepare peer-reviewed articles, white paper reports, presentations, and articles for popular press.
• Provide writing and copy editing assistance to colleagues to enhance project deliverables.
• Collaborate with national and international teams of researchers and journalists to collect data and report results.
• Contribute to grant proposals and funding opportunities.
