About the position

The Lead Research Scientist at Humana's Clinical Analytics Team will play a pivotal role in enhancing healthcare delivery and improving member health outcomes. This position involves leveraging data science and analytics to identify and develop solutions that optimize healthcare delivery while lowering medical costs. The role requires collaboration with various stakeholders to evaluate existing programs and implement new solutions, particularly focusing on underserved populations.

Responsibilities

  • Research, prototype and scale new ideas to improve population health and healthcare delivery
  • Collaborate with analytic and business teams to set objectives, approaches, and work plans
  • Collaborate with strategy to evaluate existing programs and identify and measure new solutions to impact healthcare
  • Leverage a wide range of analytics methods to transform complex data into actionable insights
  • Collaborate with clinicians to define clinical concepts and extract information for analytics
  • Translate analytic results into key takeaways and recommendations for business partners
  • Understand organizational strategy and translate it to work priorities
  • Make decisions regarding work methods in ambiguous situations with general guidance

Requirements

  • Master's Degree in a quantitative discipline such as Epidemiology, Biostatistics, Economics, Statistics, Clinical Informatics, Mathematics, Data Science, or related fields
  • Experience in the healthcare industry and healthcare data such as claims and EHR
  • 5-7 years of professional experience leveraging structured and unstructured data
  • Proficient in manipulating and analyzing data with programming languages such as Python or R
  • Demonstrated strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Clear and concise oral and written communication skills, with the ability to translate complex methodologies to business insights

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience working with big data and using PySpark, Spark R or Spark Scala
  • Experience with causal inference and causal machine learning techniques
  • Familiarity with clinical concepts related to chronic conditions such as hypertension and diabetes
  • Deep understanding of healthcare payer economics and related areas
  • Experience managing people and multiple projects
