About the position

The Lead Research Scientist at Humana will play a pivotal role in the Clinical Analytics Team, focusing on improving healthcare delivery and outcomes for Medicare Advantage beneficiaries. This position involves leveraging data science and analytics to identify opportunities that optimize healthcare delivery and lower medical costs while enhancing member health outcomes. The role requires collaboration with various stakeholders to develop and implement innovative solutions in a rapidly changing healthcare environment.

Responsibilities

  • Research, prototype and scale new ideas to improve population health and healthcare delivery
  • Collaborate with analytic and business teams to set objectives, approaches, and work plans
  • Evaluate existing programs and identify new solutions to impact healthcare
  • Transform complex data into actionable insights using a range of analytics methods
  • Collaborate with clinicians to extract clinical information for analytics and modeling
  • Translate analytic results into key takeaways and recommendations for business partners
  • Understand and translate organizational strategy into work priorities
  • Make decisions regarding work methods in ambiguous situations.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree in a quantitative discipline such as Epidemiology, Biostatistics, Economics, Statistics, Clinical Informatics, Mathematics, Data Science, or related fields
  • 5-7 years of professional experience in the healthcare industry with structured and unstructured data
  • Proficient in data manipulation and analysis using programming languages such as Python or R
  • Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to translate complex methodologies into business insights.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with big data technologies such as PySpark, Spark R or Spark Scala
  • Knowledge of causal inference and advanced machine learning techniques
  • Familiarity with clinical concepts related to chronic conditions
  • Understanding of healthcare payer economics and related areas
  • Experience managing people and multiple projects.
