The Lead Scheduler at Owensboro Surgery Center plays a crucial role in the efficient operation of outpatient surgeries and procedures. This position is responsible for scheduling all surgeries as requested by physicians or their office staff, ensuring that all necessary patient demographics and insurance information are accurately entered into the billing system. The Lead Scheduler will also be tasked with contacting payers to verify patient benefits and obtain necessary authorizations, which is essential for the smooth processing of patient care and billing. In addition to scheduling, the Lead Scheduler coordinates closely with the Director of Nursing to ensure that all required equipment, staff, and ancillary services are available for scheduled procedures. This includes preparing and distributing the daily surgery schedule to Nursing Managers, RNs, Pre-Op and PACU Nurses, Technicians, and the Business Office Manager. The role requires effective communication to manage same-day and next-day add-on cases, as well as to address any potential scheduling conflicts that may arise. Maintaining positive communication with medical staff and their office personnel is vital, as is tracking cancellations and monitoring block time. The Lead Scheduler is also responsible for preparing daily bank deposits for any monies received at the surgery center. Cross-training is an important aspect of this role, as the Lead Scheduler will cover the front desk during breaks and extended absences, and may also assist with medical records, chart preparation, collections, and patient account advocacy duties as directed by the Business Office Manager. This position is integral to ensuring that the surgery center operates smoothly and efficiently, contributing to high-quality patient care.
