About the position

The Lead Scrum Master at DTCC plays a pivotal role in the development squad, ensuring the effective application of Agile methodologies to manage the scrum process across geographically dispersed teams. This position is integral to delivering high-quality products and maintaining a predictable delivery schedule. The Lead Scrum Master is responsible for overseeing cross-functional coordination, communication, requirements traceability, release management, test case management, and defect tracking, all aimed at keeping project delivery on track. In this role, the Lead Scrum Master will leverage their extensive knowledge of Agile frameworks, particularly Scrum, to maximize the success of the squad. They will coach the Product Owner (PO) and the squad to maintain a healthy and prioritized backlog, ensuring that user stories are well-defined and refined. The Lead Scrum Master will also facilitate Scrum of Scrums sessions to align priorities, dependencies, and timelines across squads. The position requires a strong focus on coaching and facilitation, where the Lead Scrum Master will provide role-based coaching and create a safe environment for all team ceremonies. They will ensure transparent communication with stakeholders, providing concise metrics and updates on progress, risks, and impediments. Additionally, the Lead Scrum Master will support the Product Owner in release planning and coordinate the movement of code through various environments, ensuring that projects are delivered on time and within budget. The Lead Scrum Master is expected to build meaningful relationships within the squad, act as a change agent, and foster a culture of continuous learning and process improvement. They will also align risk and control processes into daily responsibilities to monitor and mitigate risks effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Understand Agile and relevant frameworks (e.g., scrum) to maximize the success of the squad.
  • Possess a comprehensive understanding of Agile tools, techniques, principles, and values and apply this knowledge to the squad.
  • Coach PO and squad to maintain a healthy and prioritized backlog with refined user stories.
  • Balance delivery timeframes and continuous iteration to incorporate customer feedback.
  • Participate in Scrum of Scrums sessions to ensure alignment on priorities, dependencies, and timelines.
  • Provide role-based coaching and facilitate coaching sessions with the squad.
  • Create a safe environment for all ceremonies to encourage active participation from all squad members.
  • Facilitate and mediate conflicts within the squad.
  • Ensure accurate and transparent communications to stakeholders with concise metrics and updates on progress, risks, and impediments.
  • Support Product Owner on release planning and coordinate movement of code between environments.
  • Manage and deliver projects to specification using a defined development process within budget and timeline.
  • Build meaningful relationships with squad members and resolve issues leveraging rapport and trust.
  • Act as an enthusiastic change agent and peer, driving continuous learning and process improvements.
  • Coach the squad to provide input for squad-level decision-making to achieve common goals.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 6 years of related experience.
  • Bachelor's degree preferred or equivalent experience.
  • Experience in Agile Development, with Scrum Master (or similar) experience.
  • Previous software development lifecycle experience.
  • Scrum Master certification is a plus.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with additional Agile frameworks beyond Scrum.
  • Familiarity with project management tools and software development methodologies.
