Lead Security/ERT - SMT

About the position

The Lead Security/ERT position at Central State Hospital involves maintaining a safe and therapeutic environment for patients in a maximum security unit. The role requires effective communication with patients, staff, and visitors, as well as the ability to engage in therapeutic activities and respond to emergencies. The Lead Security/ERT will also be responsible for monitoring patient activities and ensuring proper documentation of incidents and interactions.

Responsibilities

• Communicate with patients, staff, and visitors in a positive manner.
• Build rapport and therapeutic relationships with patients.
• Provide monitoring and assistance to activities to maintain a safe therapeutic environment.
• Engage in activities with patients to build rapport and professional relationships.
• Use safety plans to deescalate situations without physical intervention.
• Promote positive behavior by serving as a role model.
• Make rounds throughout the unit to ensure a safe environment.
• Respond professionally to various incidents and emergencies as directed by the charge person.
• Ensure documentation is neat and legible, completing all assigned documentation.

Requirements

• Valid Virginia Driver's License
• Previous safety & security experience
• Ability to communicate both orally and in writing
• Good judgment and ability to lift heavy objects
• Ability to walk or stand for a minimum of 90% of the shift
• Ability to administer CPR
• Willingness to work overtime hours
