About the position

As a Lead Software Engineer at JPMorgan Chase within the Corporate and Investment Banking's Payment Technology team, you will play a crucial role in an agile team dedicated to enhancing, building, and delivering trusted market-leading technology products. Your contributions will be vital in ensuring these products are secure, stable, and scalable. You will be a core technical contributor responsible for executing critical technology solutions across multiple technical areas, aligning with various business functions to support the firm's overarching business objectives. In this position, you will be expected to execute creative software solutions, engage in design and development, and perform technical troubleshooting. Your ability to think beyond conventional approaches will be essential in building innovative solutions and addressing complex technical problems. You will develop secure, high-quality production code and will also be responsible for reviewing and debugging code written by others. Identifying opportunities to automate the remediation of recurring issues will be a key part of your role, aimed at improving the overall operational stability of software applications and systems. You will lead evaluation sessions with external vendors, startups, and internal teams, driving outcomes-oriented discussions regarding architectural designs and technical credentials. Additionally, you will foster a culture of diversity, equity, inclusion, and respect within the team, contributing to the overall team culture and community of practice across Software Engineering. Your leadership will help drive awareness and adoption of new and leading-edge technologies within the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Executes creative software solutions, design, development, and technical troubleshooting with ability to think beyond routine or conventional approaches to build solutions or break down technical problems
  • Develops secure high-quality production code, and reviews and debugs code written by others
  • Identifies opportunities to eliminate or automate remediation of recurring issues to improve overall operational stability of software applications and systems
  • Leads evaluation sessions with external vendors, startups, and internal teams to drive outcomes-oriented probing of architectural designs, technical credentials, and applicability for use within existing systems and information architecture
  • Leads communities of practice across Software Engineering to drive awareness and use of new and leading-edge technologies
  • Adds to team culture of diversity, equity, inclusion, and respect

Requirements

  • Formal training or certification on software engineering concepts and 5+ years applied experience with Java
  • Advanced in one or more programming language(s) - Java, Spring/Spring boot framework and design techniques involving web applications/REST APIs, or modern RPC frameworks, such as gRPC
  • Experience with SQL and relational data models involving DBs like Cockroach, Postgres SQL
  • Proficient in cloud computing and experience in delivering large-scale distributed systems on cloud platforms like AWS and/or Azure and/or Google Cloud Platform
  • Experience designing, building, deploying, and owning Microservices with Kubernetes orchestration
  • Track record of delivering sustainable, maintainable, and extensible solutions
  • Effective collaboration with business and technical colleagues to identify and scope opportunities, identify risks, benefits, and constraints
  • Understanding of Agile methodology and leveraging SDLC tools to improve development and testing efficiency (JIRA, Jenkins, GIT, JUnit, Selenium, Lint)
  • Proficiency in automation and continuous delivery methods
  • Proficient in all aspects of the Software Development Life Cycle
  • Advanced understanding of agile methodologies such as CI/CD, Application Resiliency, and Security
