About the position

The Lead Software Engineer - Python Developer at Prudential is responsible for enhancing the Network product by collaborating with various stakeholders to develop, test, and debug applications. This role emphasizes coding best practices, agile methodologies, and continuous learning, aiming to deliver innovative solutions that meet business needs and improve customer experiences.

Responsibilities

  • Build applications ensuring that the code follows latest coding practices and industry standards, using modern design patterns and architectural principles.
  • Develop high quality, well documented and efficient code adhering to all applicable Prudential standards.
  • Collaborate with product owners to understand needs and define feature stories, and with tech leads to define technical design.
  • Write unit, integration tests and functional automation, addressing problems discovered by quality assurance or product support.
  • Provide input and coach team members, embedding learning and innovation in day-to-day activities.
  • Work on complex problems requiring evaluation of intangible variables.
  • Use programming languages including Python and JavaScript frameworks.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Computer Science or Engineering or experience in related fields.
  • Ability to coach others with minimal guidance and leverage diverse ideas and perspectives.
  • Experience with agile development methodologies and Test-Driven Development (TDD).
  • Knowledge of business concepts, tools, and processes for sound decision-making.
  • Ability to learn new skills and knowledge on an ongoing basis through self-initiative.
  • Excellent problem solving, communication, and collaboration skills.
  • Advanced experience with programming languages such as Python, JavaScript, and Perl; distributed systems; object-oriented programming; design patterns; microservices; multi-threading; concurrency; and parallel processing.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with frameworks such as Flask, FastAPI, and React.
  • Familiarity with data storage solutions like Postgres, MySQL, Parquet, and MongoDB.
  • Knowledge of data streaming technologies such as SQS, Kinesis, Kafka, and SNS.
  • Experience with Application Programming Interfaces (API) consumption and development, implementing service-oriented architecture (SOA) patterns.
  • Understanding of automated testing and accessibility awareness.
