About the position

As a Lead Software Engineer/Solution Architect at JPMorgan Chase within the CDS Data Platform Engineering team, you will play a pivotal role in enhancing, building, and delivering trusted market-leading technology products. This position is integral to an agile team that focuses on creating secure, stable, and scalable solutions that align with the firm's business objectives. You will be responsible for conducting critical technology solutions across multiple technical areas, ensuring that the products developed meet the highest standards of quality and performance. In this role, you will execute creative software solutions, engaging in design, development, and technical troubleshooting. Your ability to think beyond conventional approaches will be essential in building innovative solutions and addressing complex technical problems. You will develop secure, high-quality production code and will also be responsible for reviewing and debugging code written by others, ensuring that all software applications and systems operate with optimal stability. You will lead evaluation sessions with external vendors, startups, and internal teams, driving outcomes-oriented discussions regarding architectural designs and technical credentials. Additionally, you will foster a culture of diversity, equity, inclusion, and respect within the team, contributing to a collaborative and innovative work environment. Your leadership will extend to guiding communities of practice across Software Engineering, promoting awareness and adoption of new and leading-edge technologies.

Responsibilities

• Executes creative software solutions, design, development, and technical troubleshooting with ability to think beyond routine or conventional approaches to build solutions or break down technical problems.
• Develops secure high-quality production code, and reviews and debugs code written by others.
• Identifies opportunities to eliminate or automate remediation of recurring issues to improve overall operational stability of software applications and systems.
• Leads evaluation sessions with external vendors, startups, and internal teams to drive outcomes-oriented probing of architectural designs, technical credentials, and applicability for use within existing systems and information architecture.
• Leads communities of practice across Software Engineering to drive awareness and use of new and leading-edge technologies.
• Adds to team culture of diversity, equity, inclusion, and respect.

Requirements

• Formal training or certification on software engineering concepts and 5+ years applied experience.
• Hands-on practical experience delivering system design, application development, testing, and operational stability.
• Advanced in one or more programming language(s).
• Proficiency in automation and continuous delivery methods.
• Proficient in all aspects of the Software Development Life Cycle.
• Advanced understanding of agile methodologies such as CI/CD, Application Resiliency, and Security.
• Demonstrated proficiency in software applications and technical processes within a technical discipline (e.g., cloud, artificial intelligence, machine learning, mobile, etc.).
• In-depth knowledge of the financial services industry and their IT systems.
• Practical cloud native experience.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with containers, Kubernetes, Docker, Amazon EKS, Amazon ECS, Serverless.
• Experience in building apps for real-time streaming using Databricks, Apache Spark Streaming, Apache Kafka and/or Amazon Kinesis.
• Experience in re-engineering and migrating on-premises data solutions to and for the cloud.
• Experience in building on emerging cloud serverless managed services, to minimize/eliminate physical/virtual server footprint.
• Experience implementing security solutions for data storage and processing in the cloud.
