About the position

The Lead Solutions Architect for Mainframe Modernization at Chubb will spearhead the transition from legacy systems to modern technology stacks, focusing on enhancing operational efficiency and customer experience. This role involves assessing current mainframe environments, designing innovative migration strategies, and collaborating with various stakeholders to deliver secure and scalable solutions. The architect will also mentor development teams and ensure alignment with Chubb's digital transformation initiatives, ultimately driving the company's competitive edge in the insurance industry.

Responsibilities

  • Set the technical direction on specific projects by delivering implementable architecture designs that account for technology modernization.
  • Collaborate with business and technical stakeholders to understand and document solution requirements and align business and technology roadmaps.
  • Collaborate across numerous agile teams to provide end-to-end solutions across multiple business domains.
  • Provide architecture governance for solutions across the designated portfolio.
  • Provide solution direction in collaboration with delivery teams.
  • Guide and mentor development teams on sound design and coding principles and best practices in areas such as UI/UX, integration, APIs and Micro Services, application and data security, DevSecOps, and Cloud environments.
  • Develop and document secure, scalable, and resilient solution architecture designs aligned to Chubb's global standards and strategies.
  • Define application architecture and cloud migration/modernization roadmaps for the designated portfolio.
  • Identify, evaluate, and integrate new data and technologies to meet business needs.
  • Integrate data and intelligence to enable, automate, and optimize key processes.
  • Influence the roadmap and architecture of Chubb's global platforms to enable new capabilities and align with business needs.
  • Help research and prototype emerging technologies that advance digital transformation.
  • Ensure alignment and compliance with Chubb technology platform roadmaps, architectural principles, and standards.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field; equivalent industry experience considered.
  • At least 10+ years of experience as an architect delivering end-to-end technology solutions, ideally in the property and casualty insurance domain.
  • At least 5+ years of experience in understanding and analyzing large systems built on legacy technology (mainframe, COBOL, DB2, IMS, MQ, CICS).
  • At least 5+ years of experience developing solution architecture designs for cloud-native and hybrid applications (Azure preferred).
  • At least 3 years of experience working in agile organizations collaborating with Product Owners, Engineering Leads and other key stakeholders.
  • Ability to guide and mentor development teams on sound design and coding principles along with best practices in areas such as integration, resiliency, data and application security, DevOps, and Cloud.
  • Experience developing roadmaps outlining the evolution of the enterprise application portfolio from current to future state.
  • Strong relational and NoSQL database knowledge.
  • Strong cloud experience in multiple areas from API Management, Kubernetes, Cosmos DB, App service, Azure functions, Redis cache etc.
  • Experience with hands-on coding in a modern programming language and technologies such as .NET, Springboot, Kafka, JavaScript, Angular, Node.js, microservices, REST, SOAP.

Nice-to-haves

  • Cloud certifications are a plus.
  • Experience with hands-on coding in a modern programming language (e.g. C#, Java, Python, etc.).
  • Experience leveraging and integrating COTS and SaaS solutions.
  • Experience with Insurance industry specific software such as Duck Creek, Insurity, etc.
