About the position

The position is responsible for coordinating all specimens brought into the lab, which includes the separation of serum and the organization of all specimen handling. The role involves sorting and organizing the transport of specimens to the relevant departments, including samples that are sent out to other laboratories. Additionally, the position is responsible for the operation of the lab computer system, which is crucial for the overall function of the lab and the hospital in relation to patient care. The individual will engage in problem-solving associated with the specimen reception area, with direction or assistance from the Administrative Director.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate all specimens brought into the lab.
  • Separate serum and organize specimen handling.
  • Sort and organize transport of specimens to departments.
  • Operate the lab computer system.
  • Engage in problem-solving in the specimen reception area.
  • Supervise specimen processing on a day-to-day basis, including scheduling.
  • Maintain inventory of blood drawing tubes and storeroom items.
  • Create, modify, and maintain specimen control procedures.
  • Communicate procedures to staff.
  • Assist with software maintenance and validation.
  • Troubleshoot and problem-solve computer operations.
  • Recognize and solve hardware and software problems.

Requirements

  • 1 to 3 years laboratory experience in processing specimens required.
  • Knowledge of LIS and HIS computer systems required.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
