About the position

The Lead Data Engineer will play a pivotal role in transforming data into actionable insights to address legal and regulatory inquiries within the financial services sector. This position requires expertise in data analysis, integration of domain knowledge, and adherence to industry standards. The Lead Data Engineer will act as the primary contact for complex issues, guide team members, and deliver significant projects that impact multiple IT departments and business units.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze data and interpret results using various techniques.
  • Develop and implement data collection methods to optimize query efficiency and enhance data quality.
  • Acquire data from primary and secondary sources, maintaining proprietary databases and systems.
  • Identify and interpret trends or patterns in complex data sets.
  • Clean and filter data, reviewing and optimizing SQL code to ensure performance and accuracy.
  • Profile data sources using SQL and other discovery tools to support data quality analysis and business intelligence efforts.
  • Create detailed business requirements for both functional and non-functional capabilities.
  • Collaborate with management to prioritize business and information needs.
  • Identify and define new process improvement opportunities.
  • Work with team members to develop project schedules, reports, and documentation.
  • Act as project lead on small to medium-sized projects, providing direction to team members as needed.
  • Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, MIS, Business or related degree.
  • Five (5) years of relevant experience or a combination of education, training, and experience approved by HR.
  • Experience with Database Platforms such as SQL, Oracle, and AWS Redshift.
  • Experience in SQL tuning and tuning ETL solutions.
  • Ability to collaborate with business partners to understand and implement their requirements.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to build consensus across teams.
  • Strong critical thinking and ability to think outside the box.
  • Self-motivated and able to perform under pressure.
  • Ability to identify and understand issues, problems, and opportunities; compare data from different sources to draw conclusions.
  • Ability to clearly convey information and ideas through various media to engage the audience.
  • Demonstrate a satisfactory level of technical and professional skill or knowledge in position-related areas.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with AWS Redshift is a plus.
  • Ability to occasionally work a non-standard shift including nights and/or weekends.
