About the position

L3Harris in San Diego, CA is seeking a versatile RF hardware engineer to support the design and manufacturing of Tracking, Telemetry, and Command products for airborne and space-based applications. As a RF Product Lead, you will be responsible for developing solutions that meet customer needs based on current designs and proposed new development for advanced satellite communication links, digital telemetry, and signal processing technology. Additionally, as a hardware engineer, you will be directly involved in the design, integration, and testing of new assemblies for current and future programs. In this role, you will work closely with Business Development, Engineering, and Management to develop systems that meet the customer's needs based on legacy systems and new designs. You will be responsible for all aspects of RF/microwave product development, including system and module level design and definition, schematic capture, circuit design, derating, and Worst-Case Analysis (WCA). You will prepare and present engineering design concepts and data results for Initial Design Review (IDR), Preliminary Design Review (PDR), and Critical Design Review (CDR). Additionally, you will support internal peer reviews, design verification testing of engineering units, and oversight of production.

Responsibilities

  • Develop solutions that meet customer needs based on current designs and proposed new developments.
  • Work with Business Development, Engineering, and Management to develop systems that meet customer requirements.
  • Responsible for all aspects of RF/microwave product development, including system and module level design and definition.
  • Conduct schematic capture, circuit design, derating, and Worst-Case Analysis (WCA).
  • Prepare and present engineering design concepts and data results for IDR/PDR/CDR.
  • Support internal peer reviews and design verification testing of engineering units.
  • Oversee production processes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent and a minimum of 9 years of prior relevant experience.
  • Graduate Degree and a minimum of 7 years of prior related experience, or in lieu of a degree, a minimum of 13 years of prior related experience.
  • Minimum 7 years of experience supporting production of RF/Microwave hardware.
  • Minimum 7 years of experience designing RF/Microwave circuits at the circuit card or module level (schematic capture, BOM generation, layout or layout supervision).
  • Experience contributing to proposal efforts and new product development.
  • Understanding of digital design fundamentals including modem architectures, power supplies, and interfacing with ADCs and FPGAs.
  • Experience troubleshooting RF/microwave subassemblies to the component level.
  • Experience independently developing test procedures and conducting design verification testing.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience performing RF system analysis using ADS System Vue, AWR VSS, or similar.
  • Ability to perform linear and non-linear analysis of RF/microwave circuits using Keysight ADS or similar.
  • Familiarity with transmitter and receiver architecture design.
  • Experience with performing 3D Electromagnetic analysis using HFSS or similar.
  • Familiarity with DVB-S2 waveform.
  • Design experience with K band frequencies desired but not required.
  • Knowledgeable of RF transceiver architecture tradeoffs.
  • Working knowledge of digital modulation including BPSK, QPSK, and related distortion metrics like EVM.
