About the position

As a Lead Structural Engineer in our Industrial Division, you will play a pivotal role in leading projects and design teams within our rapidly growing Industrial and Water Engineering team. We are seeking experienced design professionals who are well-versed in concrete and structural designs, particularly in the context of industrial, water, or manufacturing facilities. Your expertise will be crucial in designing building structures, equipment foundations, access platforms, piping, pipe-racks, tanks, and other related structures and systems. As a Lead Structural Engineer, you will be responsible for overseeing the preparation of calculations, project drawings, and specifications, ensuring that all designs meet or exceed industry standards and project goals. You will leverage Building Information Modeling (BIM) to create detailed plans and drawings, perform technical risk assessments, and provide solutions to design challenges. In this role, you will manage assigned projects, coordinating with internal and external partners to address structural-related issues. You will also be involved in preparing and monitoring project plans, schedules, and budgets, supporting project management in achieving performance goals. Your leadership will be essential in developing mid-level engineers, providing feedback, and ensuring that the team meets deadlines and maintains high-quality work standards. This position is based in our Lone Tree, Colorado office, with opportunities for flexible work arrangements and relocation assistance available.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and prepare designs for structures including research, system selection, analysis, and drawing preparation on projects ranging from moderate to large in size and complexity.
  • Lead a team of Engineers and designers on projects.
  • Apply department and industry standards to oversee the preparation of calculations, project drawings, and project specifications.
  • Develop mid-level employees for their skill development, reviewing their progress and providing feedback and coaching as needed.
  • Leverage Building Information Modeling (BIM) to create plans, drawings, and details, and perform technical risk assessments and technical checking on projects.
  • Incorporate the requirements of the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contract, customer Requests for Proposals (RFPs), and other contractual requirements to ensure projects meet or exceed goals.
  • Manage assigned projects for the Structural Discipline, coordinating with internal and external partners to address structural-related issues or concerns.
  • Recommend changes for standards or process improvements as needed.
  • Prepare, monitor, and update project plans, schedules, and budgets, including staffing needs, and support estimating, scheduling, and project controls as needed.
  • Support department managers in setting and achieving performance goals for the department.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Structural, Civil or Architectural program from an ABET accredited four-year college or university program; Master's degree preferred.
  • Professional Engineer License is required.
  • At least 15 years' experience in structural engineering with design in both concrete and steel, or subject matter expertise in concrete design.
  • At least 7 years working in industrial, manufacturing, water/wastewater, or building markets, with water/wastewater design experience strongly preferred.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and constructively with team members and disciplines both verbally and in written form.
  • Experience leading projects, managing project plans, schedules, and budgets for structural designs.
  • Experience leading and developing other engineers.
  • Functional in utilizing spreadsheets, databases, word processing, and computer operations.
  • Advanced design skills using engineering software: CSi SAP2000 and SAFE, RISA Suite.
  • Proficiency with BIM software (Revit preferred), AutoCAD, and Navisworks; 3D modeling experience required.
