About the position

The Lead Structural Engineer at Subsea 7 will play a pivotal role in ensuring the successful delivery of high-quality engineering services tailored to meet both commercial and technical needs. Reporting directly to the Discipline Manager or Engineering Manager, this position encompasses a range of responsibilities that include planning and coordinating technical expertise across various projects. The Lead Engineer is expected to enhance specific discipline work processes and serve as a technical governance figure within the discipline. This role will involve engaging in studies and tenders, as well as overseeing live projects, ensuring that all engineering outputs align with industry standards and client expectations. In this capacity, the Lead Engineer will provide specialist skills and knowledge in key areas of project or discipline engineering, particularly focusing on design codes, legislative requirements, and current best practices in engineering. A critical aspect of the role is understanding client needs, identifying design parameters and challenges, and developing effective solutions. The Lead Engineer will lead a dedicated team, managing project budgets and planning while ensuring seamless communication and collaboration with external clients and subcontractors, as well as internal stakeholders across various disciplines. The responsibilities also include producing comprehensive design documentation such as feasibility reports, detailed design reports, construction drawings, and design specifications. The Lead Engineer will be responsible for checking and approving technical documentation, ensuring that all specifications and norms related to the project are adhered to. Additionally, the role involves active participation in the training and development of engineers, proposing innovative solutions to reduce costs and risks, and effectively organizing and prioritizing work for both themselves and their team.

Responsibilities

  • Provide specialist skills, integrity, and knowledge in key areas of project or discipline engineering, including design codes and legislative requirements.
  • Lead a team supporting project or discipline.
  • Accountable for the budget and planning of the scope of the team.
  • Manage all external and internal interfaces, including clients and subcontractors.
  • Participate in conceptual studies.
  • Provide specialist knowledge in subsea structure design, including PLETs, Jumpers, and Suction Piles.
  • Produce design documentation including feasibility reports, detailed design reports, construction drawings, and design specifications.
  • Check and approve technical documentation, accepting personal responsibility for its adequacy.
  • Manage interfaces with subcontractors and internal clients.
  • Ensure that specifications and norms related to the project are respected.
  • Participate actively in engineers training and development.
  • Propose innovative solutions allowing cost and risk reduction.
  • Evaluate, organize, and prioritize work for self and others.

Requirements

  • Degree qualified in Civil/Structural or Mechanical Engineering (demonstrable experience in a similar role will also be considered).
  • 10+ years of relevant engineering experience in the design of structures within the Marine and/or Oil and Gas industry.
  • Awareness of marine classification and local legislation.
  • Ability to work within time and budget constraints.
  • Professional presentation appropriate to the role.
  • Ability to produce work of presentable quality.
  • Strong organizational and prioritization skills.
  • Sound knowledge of industry codes, standards, and design guidelines (API, DNV, AISC, ASME, ISO, BPVC, etc.).
  • Expert knowledge of STAAD Pro, CAESAR II, Autodesk, Abaqus, and ANSYS software.
