About the position

The Lead Structural Engineer is responsible for performing a variety of professional-level engineering tasks, acting independently on smaller projects and contributing to larger, complex projects. This role involves technical direction from supervisors and requires the ability to manage multiple projects concurrently. The position focuses on structural engineering analysis and design, ensuring compliance with quality standards, project budgets, and schedules.

Responsibilities

  • Perform structural engineering analysis and design of various structures including single- and multi-story buildings, pipe-racks, and industrial supports.
  • Conduct field surveys as directed by senior technical staff.
  • Prepare reports, letters, and transmittals under the direction of project supervisors.
  • Assist Principal Engineers and Project Managers in preparing calculation packages and construction drawings for clients.
  • Create detailed 3D computer models to analyze complex buildings and structures.
  • Initiate project setup and management files for projects of moderate complexity.
  • Act in responsible charge while performing assigned engineering tasks in conformance with quality standards, project budget, and schedule.
  • Communicate with clients and contractors for technical coordination of project requirements.
  • Assist in technical training and mentoring of Engineers and Interns.

Requirements

  • State of California Professional Engineer License (P.E.).
  • Bachelor of Science degree in an appropriate engineering discipline and 4-6 years of relevant work experience, or a Master of Science degree and at least 3 years of relevant work experience.
  • Working knowledge of latest building codes (IBC, CBC, ASCE 7) and material standards (AISC, ACI, NDS, TMS).
  • Familiarity with common structural building systems and materials (steel, concrete, masonry, wood).
  • Ability to utilize basic personal computer applications including spreadsheets, word processors, email, and Internet browsers.
  • Ability to communicate technical aspects of projects to peers, subordinates, and clients.
  • Ability to perform structural design engineering using both computer-based and manual computations.
  • Familiarity with popular structural engineering software (ETABS, SAP2000, RISA-3D).
  • Ability to direct the execution of moderately complex engineering tasks.
