About the position

The Lead Engineer is responsible for performing a variety of professional-level engineering tasks, particularly in structural engineering. This role involves acting independently on smaller projects and contributing to larger, complex projects under the technical direction of supervisors. The position requires the ability to manage multiple projects concurrently while ensuring compliance with quality standards, project budgets, and schedules.

Responsibilities

• Perform structural engineering analysis and design for various structures including buildings and industrial supports.
• Conduct field surveys as directed by senior technical staff.
• Prepare reports, letters, and transmittals under the direction of project supervisors.
• Assist Principal Engineers and Project Managers in preparing calculation packages and construction drawings.
• Create detailed 3D computer models for complex buildings and structures.
• Initiate project setup and management files for projects of moderate complexity.
• Communicate with clients and contractors for technical coordination of project requirements.
• Assist in the technical training and mentoring of Engineers and Interns.

Requirements

• State of California Professional Engineer License (P.E.).
• Bachelor of Science degree in an appropriate engineering discipline with 4-6 years of relevant work experience, or a Master of Science degree with at least 3 years of relevant work experience.
• Working knowledge of latest building codes (IBC, CBC, ASCE 7) and material standards (AISC, ACI, NDS, TMS).
• Familiarity with common structural building systems and materials (steel, concrete, masonry, wood).
• Ability to utilize basic personal computer applications including spreadsheets and word processors.
• Ability to communicate technical aspects of projects to peers, subordinates, and clients.
• Ability to perform structural design engineering using both computer-based and manual computations.
• Familiarity with structural engineering software (ETABS, SAP2000, RISA-3D).
• Ability to direct the execution of moderately complex engineering tasks.
