About the position

This position serves as a Lead Supply Technician (Medical) for the Medical Supply Distribution areas of Logistics Service within the VA Health Care System. As a Lead Supply Technician, you will ensure supplies and materials are distributed to all areas serviced by Logistics to provide wards, clinics, operating rooms, secondary storage locations, and other hospital facilities with supplies and materials including sterile and non-sterile medical supplies, instrument sets, and equipment. You will be responsible for overseeing the distribution and balancing of workload among employees, ensuring timely accomplishment of assigned tasks, and maintaining current knowledge of procedures, policies, and guidelines relevant to supply management. In this role, you will monitor the status and progress of work, making day-to-day adjustments in accordance with established priorities. You will maintain stock in primary and secondary inventory locations for all clinical and administrative services, which includes pulling stock inventory and materials for delivery, replenishing stock, and interacting with customers to resolve issues. Additionally, you will perform inventory using bar code equipment and ensure that areas are cleaned according to aseptic principles as per infection control guidelines. You will also be responsible for receiving supplies and materials into the catchment area, which includes unpacking and storing supplies while ensuring their sterility and integrity. Working with clinical and administrative customers, as well as outside vendors, will require tact and diplomacy to coordinate work activities and resolve operational issues pertaining to supply management requirements. This position is full-time, Monday through Friday, from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, and is not eligible for telework.

Responsibilities

  • Distributes and balances workload among employees in accordance with established workflow or job specialization and assures timely accomplishment of assigned workload.
  • Monitors status and progress of work and makes day-to-day adjustments in accordance with established priorities.
  • Maintains current knowledge and answers questions of other employees on procedures, policies, directives, or other guidelines as necessary and obtains needed information or decisions from supervisor on problems.
  • Maintains stock in primary and secondary inventory locations for all clinical and administrative services, including pulling stock inventory and materials for delivery, replenishing stock inventory, and interacting with customers to resolve issues.
  • Performs inventory using bar code equipment and resolves differences between records and physical count of stock.
  • Ensures areas are cleaned in accordance with aseptic principles as published in infection control guidelines, local Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and Joint Commission standards as scheduled.
  • Receives supplies and materials into the catchment area including unpacking/uncrating supplies from shipping cartons; storing supplies and materials; and ensuring sterility and integrity of the supplies and materials as well as the data integrity of the inventory management system.
  • Works with clinical and administrative customers as well as outside vendors with tact and diplomacy to coordinate work activities and resolve operating issues pertaining to supply management requirements.

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen to apply for this job.
  • Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
  • Must be able to serve a probationary period if required.
  • Subject to background/security investigation.
  • Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP).
  • Participation in the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) vaccination program is a requirement for all Veterans Health Administration Health Care Personnel (HCP).
  • Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-5 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization.
