About the position

The Lead Supply Technician at the Battle Creek VA Medical Center will oversee the distribution and management of supplies within the Supply Chain Management Service. This role involves balancing workloads, monitoring work progress, providing training, and ensuring compliance with established procedures. The technician will also maintain inventory and assist in the management of clinical and administrative supplies, contributing to the overall efficiency of the medical center's operations.

Responsibilities

  • Distributes and balances the workload among employees according to established workflow.
  • Monitors status and progress of work, making day-to-day adjustments as needed.
  • Instructs employees in specific tasks and job techniques, providing written instructions and reference materials.
  • Gives on-the-job training to new employees following established procedures.
  • Maintains current knowledge and answers questions regarding procedures and policies.
  • Checks on work in progress and reviews completed work for compliance with instructions.
  • Monitors working conditions and resolves informal complaints from employees.
  • Reports on performance, progress, and training needs of employees to the supervisor.
  • Maintains stock for all clinical and administrative services, monitoring expiration dates and rotating stock as necessary.
  • Supports managers in checking inventory for recalled items and assists in completing work orders.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship is required to apply for this job.
  • Must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least GS-05 level in the normal line of progression for the occupation.
  • Experience in distributing and managing medical supplies and materials, including sterile and non-sterile items.
  • Ability to train new employees and maintain knowledge of procedures and policies.

  • Experience with inventory management systems.
