About the position

The Lead, Systems Engineer (Space Vehicle - Electrical) at L3Harris is responsible for the electrical systems engineering of spacecraft, ensuring seamless integration of the spacecraft bus, mission payload, and communication payload. This role involves overseeing the design, development, integration, and testing of electrical systems, while coordinating with various teams to meet customer and mission requirements. The engineer will also represent the electrical engineering team during major design reviews and lead diverse technical teams across internal and subcontractor efforts.

Responsibilities

  • Act as the primary electrical systems engineer responsible for mechanical integration of the spacecraft bus, mission payload, and communication payload.
  • Manage and maintain the electrical integration of the spacecraft bus, mission payload, and communications payload according to internal and external ICDs.
  • Generate and coordinate electrical design specifications and interface documents, including requirements derivation and V&V activities.
  • Extract mechanical and environmental requirements from mission-level and CONOPs, cascading them to the spacecraft bus and payloads.
  • Ensure compliance with electrical functional and physical allocations, changes, and requirements throughout the SV design.
  • Coordinate and/or complete electrical integration activities such as power and link budgets, telemetry and command allocations, and GNC analyses.
  • Support planning and execution of electrical integration testing of HW/SW from subsystem to SV level, including troubleshooting issues.
  • Maintain cognizance of changes in the SV subcontractor and in-house electrical design baselines.
  • Support system modeling teams in generating Cameo system views and simulations.
  • Work closely with Software, Mechanical, and Integration and Test Systems Engineers to oversee end-to-end integration across the program lifecycle.
  • Represent Space Vehicle electrical engineering during major system level design reviews and milestone reviews.
  • Lead or participate in failure review boards and change control boards to ensure electrical impacts are coordinated across the SV.
  • Create and/or support delivery of Customer CDRLs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or adjacent field.
  • Minimum 9 years of prior relevant experience, or a Graduate Degree with a minimum of 7 years of experience, or 13 years of prior related experience in lieu of a degree.
  • Active TS/SCI security clearance.
  • Experience with electrical integration of spacecraft busses, mission payloads, and communications payloads.
  • Experience leading both internal and external supplier electrical engineering teams.
  • Experience with electrical integration, testing, and troubleshooting of complex systems.

Nice-to-haves

  • Well versed in coordinating physical and functional electrical interface details such as circuit compatibility, voltage levels, and signal protocols.
  • Experienced with electrical requirements validation and milestone entry/exit criteria.
  • Familiarity with electrical engineering processes such as power, guidance, navigation, and control (GNC).
  • Familiarity with Digital Engineering and MBSE tools such as DOORs, CAMEO, CREO, JIRA.
  • Strong track record of leading electrical engineering teams through all phases of a space program.
  • Ability to perform or coordinate Space Vehicle level electrical analyses and trades.
