About the position

The Lead Tax Accountant at QBE is a senior-level position responsible for overseeing corporate state and local income tax processes, ensuring compliance with tax laws and regulations. The role involves tax research, preparation oversight, quarterly tax provisioning, and collaboration with various teams to manage compliance and reporting. The ideal candidate will possess strong financial acumen and experience in state income tax, contributing to the development of tax strategies and process improvements.

Responsibilities

  • Review and help oversee state income tax provision processes including updates to apportionment and reviewing current and deferred tax calculations.
  • Review quarterly state estimates and income tax extensions.
  • Help develop strategies and tax planning opportunities.
  • Research state income tax implications of corporate transactions and summarize findings in audit-ready memo format.
  • Collaborate with onshore and offshore teams to manage compliance and reporting calendars.
  • Manage state return to provision processes and finalize year-end reconciliations.
  • Manage state tax authority audits and related information requests.
  • Prepare analysis, modeling, and tax deliverables related to new tax laws and/or other technical matters.
  • Review income tax returns and workpapers for P&C insurance and non-insurance companies.
  • Support the quarterly federal tax provision process under AIFRS17 and US Local STAT including book to tax reconciliations.
  • Champion process improvement by evaluating current processes and implementing new procedures.
  • Collaborate with internal audit to assess the effectiveness of internal controls and assist in implementing corrective actions based on audit findings.
  • Support team member development by assisting with integration of onshore and/or offshore staff.

Requirements

  • Strong understanding of corporate state and local income tax laws, regulations, and compliance requirements.
  • Experience with tax research and oversight of return preparation.
  • Detail-oriented with high degree of tax and financial acumen.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple priorities effectively.
  • Experience with Corptax Compliance for Tax Returns, Oracle Fusion for General Ledger, and Oracle Tax Compliance and Reporting Solution.
