About the position

Financial Planning Tax Office is seeking a goal-driven Lead Tax Accountant to take charge of advising clients, analyzing tax data submitted by clients, and filing and submitting tax returns. The Lead Tax Accountant will also supervise the bookkeeping and tax teams, ensuring that all operations run smoothly and efficiently. This role requires a strong commitment to confidentiality and excellent service to promote repeat business, as well as the ability to provide future tax planning to clients. The ideal candidate will also be responsible for processing bookkeeping for clients and analyzing company financials. To ensure success in this position, the Lead Tax Accountant should possess a thorough knowledge of tax legislation and regulations, provide exceptional service to clients, and maintain the high standards set by the organization. A top tax preparer will be detail-oriented and have excellent oral and written communication skills to effectively handle correspondence from clients and tax authorities. Proficiency in both bookkeeping and tax preparation software is essential. Key responsibilities include facilitating and managing the preparation and review of clients' federal tax returns, ensuring the accurate and timely filing of all tax forms, and identifying opportunities for process improvement in company tax procedures. The Lead Tax Accountant will also develop and implement strategic tax planning for federal and state taxes, manage the bookkeeping and tax team, and maintain effective control procedures over all aspects of the tax process. Additionally, the role involves assisting with IRS income tax audits, monitoring legislative and regulatory tax law developments, and providing support and training to staff in the taxation department.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate and manage the preparation and review of clients' federal tax returns and the accurate, timely filing of all tax forms.
  • Ensure accurate, timely filing of consolidated federal, state, and local income tax returns and other business-related filings for clients.
  • Find and implement opportunities for process improvement in company tax procedures.
  • Develop and implement strategic tax planning for all necessary federal and state taxes.
  • Manage members of the bookkeeping and tax team as they prepare components of clients' US federal income tax return and other tax documents.
  • Plan for and develop an overall return calendar and coordinate timing and inputs with the tax team.
  • Maintain effective control procedures over all aspects of the tax process.
  • Assist with the management of clients' IRS income tax audits: preparing responses, creating schedules, etc.
  • Monitor legislative and regulatory tax law developments, communicate the effects of these developments to management and the tax team, and create strategies to capitalize on changes to taxation legislation.
  • Provide support and train staff in the taxation department.
  • Review tax returns and quarterly/yearly tax projections for clients.
  • Manage and mentor members of the tax team to greater levels of effectiveness and engagement.
  • Facilitate client retention and growth.
  • Acquire new clientele for the company.

Requirements

  • Experience with both Individual and Corporate Returns
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance
  • Registered Tax Return Preparer Test completed
  • Registration with the IRS with a valid PTIN
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience
  • Computer literate
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Must ensure confidentiality
  • Proficient with QuickBooks Payroll relief
  • Proficient in Tax Preparation Software
