About the position
The Lead Tax Examining Technician (1040X) position is responsible for overseeing the distribution and monitoring of workload within the Taxpayer Services Division. This role ensures equitable distribution of tasks among employees, provides training and support, and resolves performance-related issues. The technician will also perform administrative duties in the absence of the manager and maintain knowledge of relevant procedures and policies.
Responsibilities
- Distributes, balances, monitors, and reports on workload according to established workflow or job specialization.
- Assures equitable distribution of work among employees and timely completion of assigned tasks.
- Amends or rejects work that does not meet established standards and refers issues to the supervisor.
- Maintains current knowledge of procedures, policies, and directives; answers questions and provides training to employees.
- Resolves simple informal complaints and refers more complex issues to the supervisor.
- Reports on workload performance, progress, training needs, and disciplinary problems of employees.
- Performs administrative duties in the absence of the manager.
Requirements
- One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-06 level, such as bookkeeping, accounting, or customer service roles involving tax or accounting problems.
- Experience in analyzing and resolving high-conflict differences using established guidelines.
- Ability to interpret account information to address various issues and past transactions.
Nice-to-haves
- Experience in a supervisory or leadership role within a tax or accounting environment.
- Familiarity with IRS procedures and policies.
