About the position

The Lead Tax Examining Technician position at the Department of the Treasury involves overseeing the distribution and monitoring of workload within the Taxpayer Services Division. This role is crucial for ensuring that tax-related tasks are completed efficiently and accurately, while also providing guidance and training to other employees. The technician will handle administrative duties in the absence of the manager and will be responsible for resolving informal complaints and reporting on employee performance.

Responsibilities

  • Distributes, balances, monitors, and reports on workload according to established workflow or job specialization.
  • Ensures equitable distribution of work among employees and timely completion of assigned tasks.
  • Amends or rejects work that does not meet established standards and refers issues to the supervisor.
  • Maintains current knowledge of procedures, policies, and directives; answers questions and provides training to employees.
  • Resolves simple informal complaints and refers more complex issues to the supervisor.
  • Performs administrative duties in the absence of the manager.
  • Makes suggestions regarding personnel actions and recognizes outstanding performance.

Requirements

  • One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service, including experience with individual and business tax law, oral and written communication, and dealing with sensitive situations.
  • Experience using interviewing techniques to obtain information under sensitive conditions.
  • Knowledge of IRS principles, practices, and procedures, including taxpayer rights and enforcement policies.

  • Experience with online systems and research materials related to tax processing procedures.
