About the position

The Lead Tax Examining Technician position is a temporary role within the Department of the Treasury, specifically in the IRS Taxpayer Services Division. The technician will be responsible for overseeing workload distribution, providing training and support to employees, and ensuring compliance with established standards. This role requires a strong understanding of tax law and the ability to communicate effectively with both internal and external stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Distributes, balances, monitors, and reports on workload in accordance with established workflow or job specialization.
  • Assures equitable distribution among employees and timely accomplishment of assigned workload.
  • Amends or rejects work not meeting established standards and refers problems to the supervisor.
  • Maintains current knowledge of procedures, policies, and directives; answers questions; and provides both classroom and on-the-job instruction to employees.
  • Resolves simple informal complaints and refers others to the supervisor; reports on performance, progress, and training needs of employees.
  • Performs administrative duties in the absence of the manager.

Requirements

  • One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-6 grade level in the Federal service, including experience using business tax law, IRM, IRC, IRS collection techniques, and enforcement actions.
  • Experience advising taxpayers on options for meeting tax obligations and communicating specialized information orally or in writing.
  • Experience processing IMF Rejects and IMF RAW.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a supervisory role or leading a team.
  • Familiarity with IRS policies and procedures.
