About the position

The Lead Tax Examining Technician position at the Department of the Treasury involves overseeing the distribution and monitoring of workload within the Small Business Self Employed (SBSE) division. This role is responsible for ensuring equitable distribution of tasks among employees, providing training and support, and resolving performance-related issues. The position is temporary, with a potential duration of up to two years, and requires a high level of knowledge in tax laws and regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Distributes, balances, monitors, and reports on workload according to established workflow or job specialization.
  • Assures equitable distribution among employees and timely accomplishment of assigned workload.
  • Amends or rejects work not meeting established standards and refers issues to the supervisor.
  • Maintains current knowledge of procedures, policies, and directives; answers questions and provides training to employees.
  • Resolves simple informal complaints and reports on performance, progress, and training needs of employees.
  • Performs administrative duties in the absence of the manager.
  • Makes suggestions concerning personnel actions and recognition of outstanding performance.
  • Performs work of the same kind and level as the employees led.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service, including experience working with individual and/or business accounts and applying tax laws and regulations.
  • Experience with online systems and technology to resolve taxpayer inquiries and issues.
  • Must meet Time in Grade (TIG) requirements for eligibility.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a supervisory or leadership role within a tax-related environment.
  • Familiarity with IRS policies and procedures.
