About the position

Lead teachers are district leaders and domain experts who ensure common, research-based and culturally responsive instructional practices are consistently implemented throughout the district. In partnership with colleagues, they use their domain-specific expertise to lead, support, and evaluate curriculum, assessments, instruction, intervention, and professional learning focused on specific grade-bands throughout the district. They engage stakeholders in achieving district and department goals through ongoing communication, resource development, progress monitoring, and individualized, school-based support as needed. They are data-driven, organized, strategic thinkers who are deeply committed to establishing systems and structures that ensure equitable outcomes are achieved and sustained. The Lead Teacher, Advanced Learning supports students, teachers, parents, and administrators district-wide.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate and support systems and structures that ensure district-wide alignment of rigorous, research-based, and culturally responsive practices for advanced learning and talent development
  • Collaborate and communicate with internal and external partners, including core academic departments, school leaders, district offices, and community groups around topics related to tiered supports and opportunities for enrichment
  • Provide expertise and guidance to building-based coaches, interventionists, and classroom teachers on instructional techniques and resources relative to students identified for tiered interventions and/or extension opportunities
  • Research and develop a district-wide portfolio of challenging and enriching instructional activities and advanced projects for learners
  • Support the implementation of the district acceleration guidelines with school-based teams, families, and caregivers
  • Represent the department in a variety of forums as requested to support domain-specific initiatives and events
  • Develop and conduct internal professional development workshops relative to advanced learners, talent development, enrichment, and other topics as needed
  • Support the content and logistics of afterschool tutoring, vacation, and summer learning opportunities
  • Seek out and coordinate the application of current research in supporting a range of learners in their classroom routines and experiences
  • Engage in data collection and analysis and prepare periodic reports
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • A belief in the ability of all students to achieve at high levels
  • Required MA Teacher License: Elementary 1-6 or English 5-12 or Math 1-6; 5-8; 8-12 or Moderate Disabilities preK-8; 5-12
  • 5+ years of teaching, coaching or related experience
  • Experience communicating and engaging with a variety of internal and external community groups
  • In-depth knowledge of MTSS and current, research-proven practices across tiers of instruction, intervention, and enrichment
  • In-depth knowledge of current research and best practices to support students with advanced learning needs
  • In-depth knowledge of culturally responsive and social-emotional learning approaches that result in improved and equitable outcomes
  • Prior coaching, curriculum development or leadership experience
  • Proven success working in an urban classroom and community setting
  • Fluent in Google Suite Applications (Google: Docs, Slides, Forms, Sheets, Calendar, Gmail)
  • Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university required, Master's degree or higher preferred
