We are seeking a Lead Technical DBA who will play a crucial role in supporting the delivery and maintenance of IT solutions. This position requires deep technical expertise in database technologies, and the successful candidate will be responsible for providing technology solutions that align with business and IT needs. The Lead Technical DBA will engage significantly with customers, manage work planning, and provide project management services to IT customers, all while working under minimal supervision. The primary duties of this role include undertaking complex database projects that require specialized technical knowledge. The Lead Technical DBA will make informed decisions on complex database issues and provide technical expertise to ensure the performance and reliability of database solutions. This position also involves maintaining and enhancing engagement with business and IT partners to determine requirements that support service levels and project commitments. The successful candidate will build and maintain knowledge of new technologies, assist in the development of analyses for business and IT clients, and participate in relevant IT Architecture Domain Groups to review and plan the introduction of new database technologies. In addition to technical responsibilities, the Lead Technical DBA will establish and communicate common technical goals and direction for the team, provide performance evaluations, career development feedback, and recognition, and act as a source of direction, training, and guidance for less experienced staff. This role is pivotal in ensuring that the organization continues to lead in clean energy production while leveraging advanced database technologies to support our mission.

Responsibilities

  • Undertakes complex database projects requiring specialized technical knowledge.
  • Makes well thought-out decisions on complex or ambiguous database issues.
  • Provide technical database expertise and/or solution delivery support for maintaining performance and reliability of database solutions.
  • Maintain and enhance engagement with business and IT partners to determine requirements in support of service levels and project commitments.
  • Build and maintain knowledge of new technologies or technology opportunities and assist in development of analysis for business and/or IT clients.
  • Participate in relevant IT Architecture Domain Groups to appropriately review and plan the introduction of new database technologies.
  • Ensure appropriate implementation of technology both within the production and the development environments.
  • Establish and communicate common technical goals/direction for team.
  • Provide performance evaluations, career development feedback, and recognition.
  • Act as a source of direction, training and guidance for less experienced staff.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related discipline.
  • Typically 8+ years hands-on experience in one or more database technologies (DB2, Oracle, SQL Server) or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • Broad technical expertise with deep technical knowledge in one or more database technologies (DB2, Oracle, SQL Server).
  • Excellent communication skills, able to effectively communicate highly technical information in non-technical terminology (written and verbal).
  • Understanding of change management principles associated with new technology implementations.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability.
  • Understands and applies project management principles when leading and directing work.

Nice-to-haves

  • 5-7 years of designing and implementing Microsoft SQL Database ecosystems for large enterprise customers.
  • 5-7 years of administrative support over Microsoft SQL Database Ecosystems for large enterprise customers.
  • 3-5 years of design and implementation Azure Cloud Platform Managed instances and/or SQL Database instances.
  • 3-5 years of experience with various cluster configurations for Microsoft SQL utilization.
  • 2-3 years of experience leveraging PowerShell scripts to support SQL Database ecosystems.
  • 2-3 years experience with consulting and supporting SSIS, SSAS, and SSRS ecosystems.
  • 2-3 years experience supporting Windows Server OS environments running SQL Server environments.
