About the position

As a Lead Technical Program Manager at Northwestern Mutual, you will play a pivotal role in planning, coordinating, and actively managing the IT delivery plans for complex, cross-functional technical solutions that span multiple technical products. This position requires you to manage the end-to-end plan that encompasses all necessary changes to technical products in support of initiative outcomes. You will be accountable for aligning one or more large, complex programs consisting of multiple efforts, ensuring that all aspects of the program are synchronized and effectively managed. Your responsibilities will include making connections across technology and business teams, facilitating the identification of interdependencies among various work streams. You will define the program structure and create a unified plan to achieve the program objectives, driving clarity on objectives, priorities, and measures. Additionally, you will be responsible for identifying, assessing, and mitigating program risks and issues, as well as removing any impediments that may hinder progress. In this role, you will also lead or mentor program managers and other team members, fostering a collaborative environment that encourages professional growth and development. Your expertise in program management methodologies and governance will be essential in guiding the team towards successful project delivery, ensuring that all initiatives are executed efficiently and effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, coordinate and actively manage IT delivery plans for complex, cross-functional technical solutions.
  • Accountability for aligning one or more large, complex programs consisting of multiple efforts.
  • Make connections across technology and business teams to drive identification and facilitation of interdependencies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Computer Science, Information Systems or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • Minimum 6 years of professional experience.
  • Five or more years of program management experience in technology and/or business functions.
  • Experience with program management methodologies & governance.
  • Experience with project management methodologies & SDLC.
  • Working knowledge of project management/agile tooling.
  • Understanding of software development, testing, and implementation as well as technical concepts.
  • Ability to work closely with engineers, product managers, and business leaders.
  • Experience managing large scale, cross-functional initiatives using various delivery methodologies (i.e. waterfall, agile, lean, scrum, etc.).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
