About the position

The Lead Technician at Childress Solutions is responsible for installing connectivity solutions, managing work crews, and ensuring high-quality installations that meet customer requirements. This role involves working on various projects, maintaining customer relationships, and ensuring compliance with industry standards. The position requires travel within the mid-Atlantic region and offers opportunities for growth within a modern office environment.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a clean, neat, professional appearance while wearing the company uniform.
  • Accept direction and critiques from Team Members in higher classifications.
  • Understand complex wiring diagrams and installation instructions.
  • Terminate common types of fiber optic fittings efficiently to industry standards.
  • Terminate copper cabling to industry standards.
  • Articulate differences in testing requirements for various categories of copper media.
  • Complete Telecommunication Room build-outs including rack construction and wire management.
  • Implement labeling schemes as detailed in the Project Scope of Work.
  • Configure and set-up test equipment for required tests on copper media.
  • Perform and document optical attenuation tests on optical strands.
  • Exhibit excellence in customer relation skills and maintain a calm demeanor in stressful situations.
  • Motivate work crews and assign tasks to maximize efficiency.
  • Follow company procedures for materials management and project administration.
  • Ensure a complete project plan exists and work with the Operations Manager to tailor it as needed.
  • Conduct project walk-throughs with the Operations Manager to identify concerns.
  • Act as a single point of contact for the customer during installations.
  • Develop a plan to manage project materials efficiently.
  • Monitor progress and assign tasks to meet project milestones.
  • Inform the Operations Manager weekly on project progress and issues.
  • Ensure proper test equipment is available and in working order.
  • Ensure installation conforms to industry standards and project Scope of Work.
  • Ensure project team members follow safety procedures and company policies.
  • Provide cable and component labeling with portable printing devices.
  • Download and archive test results and ensure customer receives required documentation.
  • Obtain Project Acceptance from the customer upon project completion.
  • Maintain a neat and orderly worksite and care for company assets.
  • Promote Environmental, Health & Safety policies of Childress Solutions.
  • Attend training sessions to maintain vendor certifications.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Manager.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 4 years' experience in installation, maintenance & programming of Telecom Systems, TCP/IP Networks, CCTV Security, Access control & Wireless Solutions.
  • Possess personal tools as outlined in the tech tier tool list.
  • Ability to install, terminate & test low voltage cables & fiber optical cables.
  • Strong understanding of low voltage infrastructure and related services.
  • Familiarity with Bisci or equivalent industry standards.
  • Ability to understand complex wiring diagrams and installation instructions.
  • Ability to pass pre-employment screening.
  • Valid Driver's License.
  • Ability to obtain and keep a DCJS registration.
  • Finger & wrist dexterity & hand/eye coordination.
  • Ability to work from heights using proper fall protection.
  • Ability to use small hand tools and power tools.
  • Ability to climb stairs, ladders, and/or scaffolds.
  • Ability to walk, stand, bend, lift to 50 lbs., and drive a vehicle.
