About the position

The Lead Transportation Security Officer (LTSO) at the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) plays a crucial role in safeguarding the American way of life by securing transportation infrastructure, including airports, seaports, and public transit systems. This position involves leading a team of Transportation Security Officers (TSOs), implementing security screening procedures, and responding to security breaches and emergencies.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage a team of at least three full-performance level Transportation Security Officers (TSOs).
  • Identify, distribute, and balance workloads and tasks among employees according to established workflow and skill levels.
  • Provide input to supervisors regarding employee performance, promotions, and awards.
  • Implement security screening procedures in accordance with TSA objectives.
  • Assist with investigations of incidents and prepare incident reports.
  • Respond to breaches of security and emergency situations.
  • Train team members and monitor their work progress.
  • Represent the team in communications with supervisors to obtain necessary resources.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship or U.S. National.
  • At least 18 years of age at the time of application.
  • Completion of a favorable Background Investigation (BI).
  • Pass pre-employment Drug Screening and subject to post-employment random drug and alcohol testing.
  • Selective Service registration required.
  • Ability to work various shifts and overtime as needed.
  • Meet and maintain medical requirements for screening work, including physical abilities assessment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in security work, aviation screener work, or X-ray technician work.
  • Specialized experience in providing frontline security protection.
  • Experience operating an x-ray machine and screening baggage.
