About the position

The Lead Transportation Security Officer (LTSO) position at the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) involves leading a team of Transportation Security Officers (TSOs) to ensure the safety and security of the traveling public at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL). The role requires overseeing security screening procedures, responding to security breaches, and training team members while maintaining compliance with TSA directives. This position is critical in safeguarding the American transportation infrastructure and ensuring the freedom of movement for people and commerce.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of at least three full-performance level Transportation Security Officers (TSOs).
  • Identify, distribute, and balance workloads and tasks among employees according to established workflow and skill level.
  • Provide input to supervisors regarding employee performance, promotions, and awards.
  • Implement security screening procedures in accordance with TSA objectives and directives.
  • Assist with investigations of incidents and prepare incident reports.
  • Respond to breaches of security and emergency situations.
  • Train team members and monitor their work progress.
  • Represent the team in communications with supervisors to obtain necessary resources.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship or U.S. National status.
  • At least 18 years of age at the time of application.
  • Completion of a favorable Background Investigation (BI).
  • Pass pre-employment drug screening and subject to random drug and alcohol testing.
  • Selective Service registration required.
  • Ability to work various shifts and overtime as needed.
  • Meet and maintain medical requirements for screening work, including physical abilities assessment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in security work, aviation screener work, or X-ray technician work.
  • Specialized experience in frontline security protection of air travelers and airports.
