About the position

The Lead Transportation Security Officer (LTSO) position at the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) involves leading a team of Transportation Security Officers (TSOs) to ensure the safety and security of the American transportation infrastructure. This role is critical in safeguarding airports, seaports, railroads, highways, and public transit systems, thereby protecting the freedom of movement for people and commerce. The LTSO will oversee security screening procedures, manage workloads, and respond to security breaches and emergencies.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of at least three full-performance level Transportation Security Officers (TSOs).
  • Identify, distribute, and balance workloads and tasks among employees.
  • Provide input to supervisors regarding employee performance and other human resources matters.
  • Implement security screening procedures in accordance with TSA objectives.
  • Assist with investigations of incidents and prepare incident reports.
  • Respond to breaches of security and emergency situations.
  • Train team members and monitor their progress.
  • Represent the team in communications with supervisors to obtain necessary resources.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship or U.S. National.
  • At least 18 years of age at the time of application.
  • Complete a favorable Background Investigation (BI).
  • Pass pre-employment Drug Screening and subject to post-employment random drug and alcohol testing.
  • Selective Service registration is required.
  • Must be available to work various shifts and overtime as needed.
  • Meet and maintain medical requirements for screening work.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in security work, aviation screener work, or X-ray technician work.
  • Specialized experience in frontline security protection of air travelers and airports.
