About the position

The Lead Transportation Security Officer (LTSO) position at the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) involves overseeing and leading a team of Transportation Security Officers (TSOs) at Norfolk International Airport. The role is critical in ensuring the security of the airport and the safety of travelers by implementing security screening procedures, responding to security breaches, and training team members. This position is designed as an Emergency Essential role, requiring the employee to remain on duty during emergencies.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and supervise a team of at least three full-performance level Transportation Security Officers (TSOs).
  • Identify, distribute, and balance workloads and tasks among employees according to established workflow and skill level.
  • Provide input to supervisors regarding employee performance, promotions, and other human resources matters.
  • Implement security screening procedures in accordance with TSA objectives and directives.
  • Assist with investigations of incidents and prepare incident reports.
  • Respond to breaches of security and emergency situations.
  • Train team members and monitor their work progress.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship or U.S. National status.
  • At least 18 years of age at the time of application.
  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
  • One year of full-time work experience in security, aviation screening, or X-ray technician work.
  • One year of specialized experience related to the duties of the position.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in frontline security protection of air travelers and airports.
  • Familiarity with operating X-ray machines and screening baggage.
  • Ability to identify dangerous objects and prevent their transport onto aircraft.
