About the position

The Lead Veterinary Technician position at a busy small animal practice in New Market, MD, is designed for an experienced technician who will work primarily on weekends. This role involves a variety of responsibilities including patient treatment, client education, and customer service functions, ensuring high-quality care for animals and excellent service for clients.

Responsibilities

• Perform patient treatments
• Gather exam room history
• Animal restraint
• Take blood samples
• Place IV catheters and administer IV fluids
• Perform x-ray imaging
• Conduct diagnostic tests (CBC, Chemistries, Urinalysis, Skin and ear cytology)
• Educate clients on animal care
• Provide general animal care
• Update appointment book as needed for the doctors
• Handle customer service functions, including greeting visitors and answering a multi-line telephone system
• Schedule appointments and present fees, including processing payments
• Take accurate phone messages from clients for doctor callbacks
• Answer questions regarding products and services, including educating clients on general animal wellness
• File medical records, charts, reports, and correspondence
• Check in and out clients.

Requirements

• 1-3 years of consistent employment at a veterinary hospital, clinic, emergency hospital, or specialty practice as a functioning technician
• High School Diploma/GED or equivalent
• Excellent listening and communication skills
• Experience with Infinity Veterinary Practice Management software or other Veterinary Practice Management software
• Ability to multitask at all times
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Proven decision-making skills to choose the most appropriate course of action
• Ability to problem-solve.
