About the position

As a Lead Visual at West Elm, you will play a crucial role in enhancing the quality of our customers' lives at home by ensuring that our store meets the highest standards of visual presentation and operational excellence. Your primary responsibility will be to support the management team in daily operations, which includes performing opening and closing routines, supervising staff, and ensuring that the store meets its financial goals while providing world-class service to our guests. You will be expected to maintain operational functions in the assigned area of accountability, particularly in sales, to ensure that the store aligns with company expectations. In this role, you will act as a Selling Captain, serving as a role model for sales associates in generating sales and delivering exceptional customer service. You will utilize Selling Essentials and training resources to educate your team on product knowledge, improve their selling skills, and help them achieve business goals. Your leadership will foster an environment where all associates are treated fairly and with dignity, in line with our People First Philosophy. You will also be responsible for providing training and coaching to associates in various areas, including selling techniques, product knowledge, clienteling, and in-home services. The Lead Visual position requires effective communication, organization, and leadership skills, as well as the ability to motivate and influence others through personal actions and examples. You will need to be physically active throughout your workday, which includes standing, walking, bending, climbing, reaching, and lifting for extended periods. A background in retail sales, particularly with shift supervision experience, is preferred, along with experience in home-related design or visual merchandising.

Responsibilities

  • Effectively perform operational functions: open and close the store, register functions and back office procedures
  • Ensure store meets visual, replenishment, cleanliness, safety and back of house standards during manager-on-duty shifts
  • Effectively perform the Selling Captain role, serving as a role model for sales associates in sales generation and customer service by making the customer experience the priority
  • Utilize Selling Essentials and training resources to educate team on product, improve selling skills, and achieve business goals
  • Provide training and coaching expertise to associates in selling, product knowledge, clienteling and in-home services
  • Maintain an environment where all associates are treated fairly and with dignity and respect, in accordance with our People First Philosophy

Requirements

  • Effective communication, organization and leadership skills
  • Proven ability to motivate and influence others through personal actions and examples
  • Ability to be active, standing, walking, bending, climbing, reaching and lifting for extended periods of time
  • 1-3 years retail sales experience with shift supervision experience preferred
  • 1-2 years experience in home related design, visual merchandising, or stockroom responsibilities preferred (specialty retail preferred, but not required)
