About the position

As a Lead Visual at West Elm, you will play a crucial role in enhancing the quality of our customers' lives at home by ensuring that our store meets financial goals and provides world-class service. Your responsibilities will include performing daily operational functions such as opening and closing the store, managing register functions, and overseeing back office procedures. You will be expected to maintain high standards of visual presentation, cleanliness, safety, and operational efficiency during your shifts as the manager on duty. In this role, you will also serve as a Selling Captain, acting as a role model for sales associates in generating sales and delivering exceptional customer service. You will utilize Selling Essentials and training resources to educate your team on product knowledge, improve their selling skills, and help achieve business goals. Your leadership will be vital in providing training and coaching to associates in areas such as selling techniques, product knowledge, clienteling, and in-home services. This position requires effective communication, organization, and leadership skills, as well as the ability to motivate and influence others through your actions. You will need to be active and mobile on the sales floor, capable of lifting and moving medium to large items, and available to work flexible hours to meet the needs of the business.

Responsibilities

  • Open and close the store, manage register functions and back office procedures.
  • Ensure the store meets visual, replenishment, cleanliness, safety, and back of house standards during manager-on-duty shifts.
  • Serve as a Selling Captain, acting as a role model for sales associates in sales generation and customer service.
  • Utilize Selling Essentials and training resources to educate the team on product, improve selling skills, and achieve business goals.
  • Provide training and coaching expertise to associates in selling, product knowledge, clienteling, and in-home services.
  • Maintain an environment where all associates are treated fairly and with dignity and respect.

Requirements

  • 1-3 years of retail sales experience with shift supervision experience preferred.
  • 1-2 years of experience in home-related design, visual merchandising, or stockroom responsibilities preferred (specialty retail preferred, but not required).
  • Effective communication, organization, and leadership skills.
  • Proven ability to motivate and influence others through personal actions and examples.
  • Ability to be active, standing, walking, bending, climbing, reaching, and lifting for extended periods of time.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in home-related design or visual merchandising.
  • Knowledge of clienteling and in-home services.
