About the position

As a Lead Visual at West Elm, you will play a crucial role in enhancing the quality of our customers' lives at home by ensuring that our store meets financial goals and provides world-class service. Your daily responsibilities will include performing opening and closing routines, supervising store operations, and ensuring that all associates are delivering exceptional customer experiences. You will be responsible for maintaining operational functions in your assigned area, ensuring that the store meets visual, replenishment, cleanliness, safety, and back-of-house standards during your shifts as the manager on duty. In this role, you will also serve as a Selling Captain, acting as a role model for sales associates in generating sales and prioritizing customer service. You will utilize Selling Essentials and training resources to educate your team on product knowledge, improve their selling skills, and achieve business goals. Your leadership will be essential in providing training and coaching to associates in selling techniques, product knowledge, clienteling, and in-home services. You will foster an environment where all associates are treated fairly and with dignity, in alignment with our People First Philosophy. The Lead Visual position requires effective communication, organization, and leadership skills. You will need to motivate and influence others through your actions and examples. The role demands physical activity, including standing, walking, bending, climbing, reaching, and lifting for extended periods. A background in retail sales with shift supervision experience is preferred, along with experience in home-related design or visual merchandising.

Responsibilities

  • Effectively perform operational functions: open and close the store, register functions and back office procedures
  • Ensure store meets visual, replenishment, cleanliness, safety and back of house standards during manager-on-duty shifts
  • Effectively perform the Selling Captain role, serving as a role model for sales associates in sales generation and customer service by making the customer experience the priority
  • Utilize Selling Essentials and training resources to educate team on product, improve selling skills, and achieve business goals
  • Provide training and coaching expertise to associates in selling, product knowledge, clienteling and in-home services
  • Maintain an environment where all associates are treated fairly and with dignity and respect, in accordance with our People First Philosophy

Requirements

  • Effective communication, organization and leadership skills
  • Proven ability to motivate and influence others through personal actions and examples
  • Ability to be active, standing, walking, bending, climbing, reaching and lifting for extended periods of time
  • 1-3 years retail sales experience with shift supervision experience preferred
  • 1-2 years experience in home related design, visual merchandising, or stockroom responsibilities preferred (specialty retail preferred, but not required)
