About the position

The Lead YMA Instructional Coach is responsible for administering the Young Moviemakers of America (YMA) curriculum at a designated site. This role involves implementing the YMA curriculum and instructional plan effectively, maintaining a positive learning environment, and mentoring students in film production skills. The coach will collaborate with industry professionals and provide hands-on learning experiences that foster creativity and technical skills in filmmaking.

Responsibilities

  • Administer the YMA curriculum at a site.
  • Complete the YMA Instructional Coach workshop.
  • Implement the YMA curriculum and instructional plan effectively.
  • Maintain a positive and safe learning environment for all YMA filmmakers.
  • Teach technical skills related to movie topics, camera operation, sound recording, lighting, audio, outlining, storyboarding, film production, and editing.
  • Design hands-on learning experiences using the YMA Instructional Model.
  • Provide frequent feedback to YMA filmmakers on their work, including critiques and grading assignments.
  • Coordinate instructional plans, field trips, and production days with the YMA Executive Management Team and partner organizations.
  • Collaborate with local filmmakers and production companies to provide real-world insights.
  • Mentor students and provide guidance as they develop their skills.
  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends and new technologies in film production.
  • Encourage creativity in YMA filmmakers and help them develop their unique style.
  • Embed efficacy-building strategies into lessons for skill mastery.
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress, attendance, and grades.

Requirements

  • Associate of Arts Degree or higher (recommended minimum requirement).
  • College credit in film and video production (preferred).
  • Experience in film production.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Knowledge of film theory and production.
  • Knowledge of high-end digital cameras (preferably BlackMagic), lighting, audio engineering, and editing.
  • Ability to work with school-age children in a classroom setting.
  • Ability to manage and organize classroom equipment.
  • Ability to work with diverse student populations.
  • Ability to maintain a positive and safe learning environment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Blackboard and LMS systems.
  • Mid-level video production skills.
