About the position

The Lead Youth Career Coach plays a pivotal role in the Youth Services division, primarily located at the Samaritan Center in Detroit, MI. This full-time position is responsible for leading, supervising, and providing ongoing guidance and support to the Youth Services Case Management Team. The Lead Youth Career Coach works closely with Youth Services Managers to ensure the successful delivery of federal, state, and local funded Youth Workforce Readiness Programs. This includes contributing to the design of operational strategies, developing and implementing program goals, systems, policies, and procedures, and providing direction to the case management and job development teams. In this role, the Lead Youth Career Coach oversees the hiring, training, supervision, and performance evaluation of Case Managers, Success Coaches, and Employment Specialists across multiple locations. They are also responsible for managing the Management Information Systems (MIS) input, ensuring quality assurance programming, and overseeing the use of college and career readiness software, such as Xello. The Lead Youth Career Coach collaborates with the data team to capture and share relevant programmatic data and works with program partners to organize projects that benefit the educational, physical, and social development of youth. The position requires regular meetings with staff to discuss participant progress and concerns, conducting periodic reviews of case files, and compiling program statistics to prepare performance and progress reports for management. The Lead Youth Career Coach is expected to provide positive leadership and direction for youth program staff and participants, utilizing trauma-informed care and person-centered supervisory techniques. This role also involves performing other duties as assigned to contribute to the overall team effort.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and supervise the Youth Services Case Management Team.
  • Work closely with Youth Services Managers to deliver federal, state, and local funded Youth Workforce Readiness Programs.
  • Contribute to the design of operational strategies for the program.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of program goals, systems, policies, and procedures.
  • Provide direction to case management and job development teams, disseminate program information, and conduct trainings.
  • Oversee the hiring, training, supervision, and performance evaluation of Case Managers, Success Coaches, and Employment Specialists.
  • Manage Management Information Systems (MIS) input and quality assurance programming for the site.
  • Ensure proper training and use of college and career readiness software (Xello) by the case management team.
  • Collaborate with the data team to capture and share relevant programmatic data.
  • Organize projects and activities with program partners to benefit youth development.
  • Provide technical support in customer assessment and strategies to remove barriers to participation.
  • Ensure program enrollment goals and objectives are met as specified by funding sources.
  • Report to supervisor on program progress and concerns.
  • Conduct periodic reviews of case files and individual service strategies.
  • Compile program statistics and prepare performance and progress reports for management.
  • Provide positive leadership and direction for youth program staff and participants.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university, preferably with a major in social work or a related field.
  • Experience working with at-risk youth and youth agencies.
  • Two to four years of management experience in human services or a related field preferred.
  • Bilingual language skills in English/Spanish or English/Arabic preferred.
  • Computer skills necessary to maintain a database and generate reports.
  • Interpersonal skills necessary to communicate effectively with staff, participants, and partner agencies.
  • Ability to handle pressures related to multiple individuals from diverse backgrounds and varying levels of need.
  • Valid Michigan driver's license and reliable transportation for travel to various locations.
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends.
