About the position

The Lead Youth Treatment Specialist at the Jefferson County Youth Crisis Stabilization Facility plays a crucial role in providing direct care and supervision to youth in crisis. This position involves mentoring and supporting residents while also leading a team of staff to ensure adherence to policies and effective treatment practices. The specialist is responsible for implementing daily activities, providing therapeutic interactions, and ensuring a safe environment for youth with complex needs.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct care, nurturing, and supervision of residents in the Youth Crisis Stabilization Program.
  • Implement the daily schedule of activities and provide group educational and recreational activities.
  • Serve as a mentor and role model for youth, encouraging their participation in treatment programming.
  • Use evidence-based practices such as Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and trauma-informed care to support youth.
  • Assess youth behavior for risks and communicate with clinical staff regarding necessary support.
  • Calmly respond to crisis situations and intervene using approved methods to maintain safety.
  • Train and orient new staff, ensuring they understand the Youth Crisis Stabilization Program.
  • Act as a shift leader, ensuring staff meet the needs of youth and follow programming guidelines.
  • Monitor documentation requirements and collaborate with the leadership team to develop programming and measure outcomes.
  • Administer medication and communicate changes to staff and medical providers.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent; bachelor's degree preferred.
  • At least 4 years of experience serving youth with mental health needs.
  • Prior supervisory experience preferred.
  • Ability to display cultural competence and respond effectively to diverse populations.
  • Valid driver's license, automobile, and insurance preferred.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Word and Excel.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with youth aged 10-17.
  • Knowledge of positive child/youth development.
  • Ability to interact with escalating youth and parents in a calm manner.
