About the position

The D. E. Shaw group is seeking an experienced Learning and Development Specialist to join its Human Capital team in New York. This role is pivotal in designing and implementing learning offerings aimed at enhancing professional skills for both entry-level and more experienced staff. The Learning & Development (L&D) team is innovation-focused, creating customized learning experiences that empower exceptional talent to excel in their careers and roles. This position offers a unique opportunity to work in an inclusive, collaborative, and engaging environment, contributing to the professional growth of employees across various roles and seniorities. In this role, you will be responsible for developing content and designing creative, bespoke learning offerings that cover a wide range of skills, including project management, idea generation, prioritization, effective interviewing, and time management. You will collaborate with internal and external experts to identify best practices, develop and deliver customized programming such as case-based workshops, online simulations, group coaching, and on-demand resources, and measure the impact of these initiatives. Depending on your expertise and interest, you may also have opportunities to facilitate classes. Close collaboration with Human Capital colleagues, business stakeholders, and external vendors and partners will be essential to your success in this role.

Responsibilities

  • Develop content and design creative learning offerings for staff across various roles and seniorities.
  • Identify best practices by working with internal and external experts.
  • Deliver customized programming, including case-based workshops, online simulations, and group coaching.
  • Measure the impact of learning initiatives and adjust programs as necessary.
  • Facilitate classes based on expertise and interest.
  • Collaborate closely with Human Capital colleagues and business stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or higher with a strong academic and professional record.
  • At least eight years of professional experience, including some in a learning and development capacity.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and collaborate effectively with teammates and stakeholders.
  • Strong research and synthesis skills to quickly understand new content areas.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with keen attention to detail.
  • Sound judgment and a commitment to achieving ambitious goals.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree in education, organizational development, business administration, law, or other advanced fields.
  • Experience in management consulting or law.
