About the position

The Learning and Development Specialist at Skyline Construction is responsible for enhancing and modifying training programs to improve engagement, learning, and retention. This role involves assessing training needs, collaborating with subject matter experts, and ensuring that training materials are current and effective. The specialist will also create and present various training forms, maintain training records, and evaluate program effectiveness, all while adhering to an approved training budget.

Responsibilities

  • Review existing training programs and suggest enhancements to improve engagement and learning.
  • Assess training and development needs through surveys, interviews, and focus groups.
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts to design and develop effective training programs.
  • Ensure training materials are current, accurate, and effective.
  • Maintain knowledge of new training methods and industry requirements.
  • Identify problems and opportunities for training improvements.
  • Collaborate with managers to create career pathways for growth.
  • Create and present various forms of training including onboarding and classroom training.
  • Develop unique training programs to meet specific worker needs.
  • Create or acquire training manuals, guides, and course materials.
  • Maintain records of training activities, attendance, and assessment results.
  • Evaluate program effectiveness through assessments and feedback.
  • Ensure courses align with company policies and business plans.
  • Meet training milestones and goals while adhering to the budget.
  • Utilize Cornerstone On Demand (LMS) platform to manage training content.
  • Prepare and implement training budget and maintain expense records.

Requirements

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with strong graphic design ability.
  • Thorough understanding of the training process.
  • Strong presentation skills and ability to moderate large groups.
  • Adept with various multimedia training platforms and methods.
  • Ability to evaluate and research training options and alternatives.
  • Strength in designing and implementing effective training and development.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and related software.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment under pressure.
  • Experience working across multiple client groups and functions.
  • Bachelor's degree in communications, organizational development, training, business or a related field preferred.
  • 3+ years' experience in a Learning and Development department or team.
  • Construction/General Contractor or similar industry experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of Learning Management Systems (LMS) required, Cornerstone On Demand preferred.
