About the position

The Learning and Development Specialist at the Lexington Public Library is responsible for creating, developing, sourcing, implementing, and conducting learning and development programs that align with the library's mission and goals. This role involves assessing learning needs, designing training programs, and ensuring a consistent and outstanding customer experience across the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Assess and evaluate learning and development needs through surveys, interviews, and focus groups.
  • Create, organize, plan, and present onboarding, orientation, and skills development programs.
  • Utilize various training methods to develop and provide training and staff development programs.
  • Coordinate compliance and personal development classes for staff members.
  • Conduct certification training for staff.
  • Track mandatory learnings across the organization.
  • Develop educational materials such as manuals and multimedia visual aids.
  • Administer post-learning evaluations, tests, and assessments.
  • Create unique learning programs to maintain or improve job skills.
  • Present training programs using various formats including group discussions and simulations.
  • Maintain records of learning activities, attendance, and retraining requirements.
  • Assess learning materials prepared by instructors.
  • Prepare and implement the learning and development budget.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • At least two years of training experience required.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong presentation skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and teaching skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and related program software.
  • Must have a valid driver's license with a safe driving record.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Training and Development, or a related field preferred.
  • SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP preferred.
