About the position

The Learning and Development Specialist at the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority plays a crucial role in designing, implementing, and managing a comprehensive learning and development program that aligns with the organization's business objectives. This position fosters a culture of continuous learning by collaborating with various stakeholders to assess training needs, develop effective learning solutions, and evaluate the impact of these initiatives on employee performance and organizational success. The specialist is responsible for delivering high-quality training through various methods, including in-person and virtual seminars, workshops, and individual training sessions.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop Learning & Development initiatives using various learning methods.
  • Collaborate with subject-matter experts and vendors to develop training initiatives aligned with organizational needs.
  • Oversee and facilitate training programs, including in-person and virtual seminars, workshops, and individual training sessions.
  • Deliver Learning & Development initiatives such as facilitation, webinars, and learning circles.
  • Research new trends and approaches in the learning industry to promote a learning culture.
  • Conduct in-depth client needs assessments to identify gaps between current and desired performance levels.
  • Create e-learning modules using Articulate 360/Rise and manage content within Learning Management Systems.
  • Analyze information and create tools to enhance training effectiveness.
  • Monitor, evaluate, and record training activities or program effectiveness, developing alternative training methods as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Organization Development, Adult Learning, Human Resources, or related field required.
  • In lieu of a Bachelor's degree, a High School Diploma or GED and an additional four (4) years of professional experience in learning and development strategy.
  • Five (5) years of progressive experience in training and development, including program design, development, and implementation.
  • Proficiency in e-learning authoring tools such as Articulate Storyline and Adobe Captivate, as well as learning management systems.
  • Strong knowledge of adult learning principles, instructional design models like ADDIE, and e-learning best practices.
