About the position

The Learning and Professional Development Specialist at Penn State University plays a crucial role in promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion within the institution. This full-time, on-campus position involves consulting on bias incident reports and developing educational programs related to bias and equity issues. The specialist will work closely with faculty, staff, and administrators to ensure effective handling of bias incidents and will be responsible for creating and delivering training programs that foster an inclusive environment.

Responsibilities

  • Provide consultation to faculty, staff, and administrators regarding bias incident reports.
  • Communicate best practices for handling bias incidents, ensuring confidentiality and effective investigation methods.
  • Connect report referees with appropriate resources and consultations.
  • Monitor responsiveness and consistency of campus case management related to bias incidents.
  • Document best practices and lessons learned from bias incident cases.
  • Track and analyze data on outcomes and actions taken regarding bias incidents.
  • Serve on the Bias Response Network and act as back-up for the Bias Response Coordinator.
  • Develop, facilitate, and coordinate professional development programs on bias and equity-related topics.
  • Create and maintain engaging content for various types of learners and update materials regularly.
  • Establish program objectives and delivery methods for educational offerings.
  • Design evaluation tools and assess learning outcomes to make data-informed recommendations.
  • Develop training materials for multiple platforms, including web content and presentations.
  • Implement marketing plans for educational programs and services.
  • Generate reports and analyze data to recommend talent development opportunities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in higher education administration, counseling, or related discipline.
  • Three years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging principles.
  • Proven competence in program development, oversight, and assessment.
  • Experience in developing and delivering training programs.
  • Ability to foster and sustain relationships with University partners.
  • Effective problem-solving, prioritization, organizational, and multitasking skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Accuracy and attention to detail.
