About the position

The GES Learning & Talent Development (L&TD) Team is seeking a highly skilled Business and Data Analyst to join our team in Northern Virginia (Arlington, VA). This position is critical in solving business problems through data analysis and driving the development of robust and semi/fully automated data reports and dashboards. The insights generated will directly impact the day-to-day decision-making processes of large-scale programs and our ability to meet the needs of our business unit. In this role, you will be responsible for operational excellence by deep diving into critical data to develop and mature operational learning metrics. You will identify tactical and operational trends that impact organizational learning and talent improvement, conduct gap analysis, and develop solutions that enhance team and organizational efficiency through better data sets. Your expertise will also be utilized to advise or influence business decisions that have multi-region impacts, leveraging your knowledge of data-driven analytical processes. The ideal candidate must possess strong analytical skills and a passion for tool development and analytics. You will set high standards for accountability with a focus on achieving superior business success and demonstrate a tenacity for continuous operational improvement. Your role will involve collaborating with a diverse set of stakeholders across multiple time zones to identify requirements, discover related data sets, design solutions, and remove bureaucratic blockers. You will need to be comfortable working with remote cross-functional teams to deliver innovative solutions that will be used across multiple business units, troubleshoot unforeseen implementation issues, and navigate persistent uncertainty and organizational change. Establishing trust with internal customers and stakeholders, eliminating non-value-add activities, and accelerating project delivery will be essential to your success. You must be able to act independently, using good judgment and effective communication to drive timely decision-making and deliver high-quality results.

Responsibilities

• Design and build custom reporting and dashboards to support GES L&TD operations.
• Run daily, weekly, monthly reports with an ongoing cadence to support the team with data to help with project execution.
• Create reporting and metrics to facilitate analyses and drive data-driven decision making.
• Own the development and maintenance of new and existing artifacts focused on analysis of requirements, metrics, and reporting dashboards.
• Report key insight trends, using statistical rigor to simplify and inform the larger team of noteworthy story lines.
• Deep dive into large data sets to answer key business questions using SQL, Excel, and other data manipulation languages.
• Continually improve ongoing reporting and analysis processes, while automating or simplifying self-service support and access to authoritative data sets.
• Partner with execution/business teams to consult, develop and implement KPIs, automated reporting/process solutions, and process improvements to meet business needs.
• Prepare and deliver business requirements reviews to the senior management team regarding progress and roadblocks.
• Own and perform individual deep dive analyses, including communicating results and implications to leaders.
• Generate weekly and monthly data reports for both internal and external business reviews.
• Learn and understand a broad range of Amazon's data resources and know how, when, and which to use and which not to use.
• Translate complex or ambiguous business problem statements into analysis requirements.
• Scale data processes and reports; write queries that clients can update themselves; lead work with data engineering for full-scale automation.
• Participate in strategic and tactical planning discussions.
• Excellent writing skills, to create artifacts easily digestible by business and tech partners.

Requirements

• 3+ years of business analyst, data analyst or similar role experience
• 3+ years of Excel (including VBA, pivot tables, array functions, power pivots, etc.) and data visualization tools such as Tableau experience
• 3+ years of business or financial analysis experience
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent
• Experience defining requirements and using data and metrics to draw business insights
• 3+ years of Excel or Tableau (data manipulation, macros, charts and pivot tables) experience
• Experience with SQL
• Experience making business recommendations and influencing stakeholders
• Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, business, economics, engineering, analytics, mathematics, statistics or a related technical or quantitative field
